Kyaterekera Outreach School

Situated half way between Busibo and Namabaale central schools in the Lwengo district of Southern Uganda, Kyaterekera is a vibrant area, with the school taking place as the community hub – it’s literally right in the middle of town!

With the dilapidated buildings based around a large tree in the centre, the classrooms were dark, and lacked furniture, school supplies, and play materials. There was no kitchen to facilitate meals for the 500 students who overpopulate the few classrooms that currently exist.

The school was founded in the 1970’s, by a local man who remains on the School Management Committee today, a group who share our passion for quality education. The founder’s dream is to see the new school built with his own eyes before he loses his vision.

Through your support, work is well underway at Kyaterekera! Following the same infrastructure model as schools like Kasomolo and Kensekka, the school will include 10 fully functioning classrooms, a brand new kitchen for school meals fueled by biogas, a water tank to provide clean drinking water, teacher accommodation, play facilities and more.

The build began in June 2019 and once complete, the school will become a key Outreach School in the area, bringing quality education to those children that live too far to travel to Namabaale or Busibo.

The hope and excitement you can see in community at Kyaterekera is like no other!
