Did you know that 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home, affecting their health, education and livelihoods?
And that a staggering 80% of childhood disease is related in some way to unsafe drinking water, poor hygiene and sanitation?
This is a global problem that we could all take action to resolve! In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were launched, placing a heavy focus on ensuring everyone has access to safe water by 2030, a key element to the fight to eradicate poverty.
So in the lead up to this year’s World Water Day, by purchasing a Cotton On Foundation item, you can change lives for the better, through our clean drinking water initiatives, such as:
- The installation of water tanks for schools. Across Southern Uganda, Cotton On Foundation has installed 8 x 260,000 L Rhino Water tanks at schools. Each tank can provide each student with 5L of fresh drinking water per day because we know that clean drinking water in schools is crucial to our success in delivering quality education. We want kids to be enjoying school and learning, rather than suffering from dehydration and lack of brain power. And the benefits of these rainwater tanks spread far beyond the school walls, with entire communities having access to the clean and fresh water.
- The construction and maintenance of bore holes! Available for entire communities, these sustainable catchment methods are a solution to provide clean water to entire communities, including the most recent borehole installed at upcoming outreach school, Ntebbe Za Ddungu to provide a fresh supply of water before we start construction in 2018.
- The installation of water pumps. With one water pump recently funded and installed at Bwe K’Lar in Thailand, these water filtration devices provide fresh and clean drinking water to every student and the wider school community.
